Mutual Strength and Support
Our school is located in a magnificent nature preserve in the immediate vicinity of Born Lake. This environment offers a multitude of opportunities to allow children to experience and move about in nature.
The positive learning atmosphere in our school is also defined by trust and cooperation between parents, teachers and children. This is why we highly value the regular, constructive exchange of information and experiences. Our school has dedicated parents who attend our educational efforts and, in many cases, provide active support (for example “Reading Mothers”, “Computer Mothers”, parent leadership of teams).
Since 2005, our school entrance phase has consisted of mixed age groups; children jointly learn based on differentiated offerings. This allows much better support for both faster and slower students in the class as a whole. In regular team meetings and conferences, the teaching staff jointly prepares for and reflects on classes.
What we value most highly in our educational efforts:
- That the children feel at home in our school and enjoy learning
- That the children are supported and challenged
- That tolerance and understanding towards others is practised
- That the children make friends
- That the children further develop values imparted by parents and teachers
Assuring and enhancing the quality of education at our school is very important to us.
We support and challenge our students in the following areas:
- General education
- Basic knowledge
- Key qualifications
- Social skills
- Decision-making and responsibility
- Formal learning skills
By the end of their primary school education, children should achieve highly independent thought and action; they should be ready for life and higher learning, able to rely on their knowledge and skills.
Our school values a variety of teaching methods such as:
- Individualised instruction
- Weekly schedule
- Learning at stations
- Learning trails
- Project-oriented, multidisciplinary learning
- Workshop projects
In addition to classroom education, teams - for example ice skating - are very important to our school; our students have already earned several cups in school competitions.
A body of rules developed with students in all of our classes supports peaceful interaction among the students.
Our school has a music and media room with several networked PCs that have internet access.
Two pianos and a basic selection of Orff instruments emphasise the importance of music at our school.
Our school has an active development association that supports our efforts.
Not only is the Born catholic primary school an educational facility for children, it is part of their lives, learning and experiences and a place where children feel happy and secure as they learn in a liberating environment.
