On June 16th Brüggen -within the context of a wider EU Initiative- will host the first „Renewable Energy & Energy Saving „Open Houses“ day.

Throughout  Europe local communities have been tasked  by the „EU- Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation“ to show initiative and involve local residents in events revolving around „Energy Saving“ and „Renewable Energy“. These events should take place between June 16th and June 24th.

During this special day in Brüggen private and communal buildings will be opened to demonstrate both innovative energy-saving measures or ways to cover energy consumption predominantly with locally generated renewable energy.

A recently completed zero-emission family home will be opened to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to discuss pros and cons of this state of the art building-technology with the residents, the architect and suppliers of essential components to the building.

In a further residential building it will be possible to experience internet and smartphone based “smart-grid-ready” building control systems. Combined with a recently installed heatpump they have enabled the building owner to realize significant energy savings.

It will also be possible for residents to visit the communal woodchips-heating boiler facility that has successfully been heating the downtown Brüggen communal buildings since 2011.

Brüggen residents and local business people from the renewable energies/energy saving sectors interested to showcase their innovations on June 16th to the general public can register their project for inclusion in the “Open Houses” catalogue with the council before April 30th:
