Tours for Children: Playfully Discovering Brüggen

A city leader with many childrenWho says guided tours have to be boring? In Brüggen children can experience local history in a playful manner tailored to their needs. The young researchers learn about the historic buildings and local history of Brüggen during the guided tour. Fun is the focus of the tour for children aged 6 to 12. And those who wish to participate can show off their knowledge in the town quiz at the end. By the way, you may even meet the castle ghost Oskar with a bit of luck. Guaranteed during costumed Halloween tours!

   

First-Hand Accounts by the Maidservant Thekla

The maiden Thekla with a city guidance“Thekla of the Burch” or, in everyday life, Thekla Boers leads visitors through the town dressed in the medieval garb of a maidservant and offers entertaining history and stories of Brüggen. The “maidservant Thekla” lived 700 years ago, was “allied with an innkeeper named Heinrich” and always knows exactly what’s going on in Brüggen. Similarities with living or deceased real-life individuals are merely coincidental. Speaking in rhymes or Low German, she takes you to the most beautiful places in Brüggen and tells you all about the castle and convent, Schwalm gate and court chamberlains office.

   

Brüggen Night Watchman

The night watchman of Brüggen in his costumeBrüggen once again has a night watchman. Dressed in a large cape and floppy hat with a signal horn, halberd and lantern as in the olden days, he leads guests and visitors through night time Brüggen. The tour starts at the castle, the emblem of Brüggen. Saint Nicholas Church, Klimp and the Brüggen Mill are also part of the programme. He knows the history and stories of every nook and cranny, Ariaans well never seems to run dry. By the way, even long-time residents of Brüggen can learn a lot about their town during such a nightly tour. But whether all of the stories he presents to his listeners are true will forever remain his secret.

   

Guided Tours – Brüggen Yesterday and Today

An expert guide takes you through the old town of Brüggen and tells you about local history, the castle and Minster as well as Brüggen today. Special tours are available upon request.

Duration of the tour: Approximately 60 minutes
Cost per guide on weekdays: EUR 21,00
On weekends and holidays: EUR 26,00 plus EUR 1,00 per person.
Guided tours for children: EUR 0,50 extra

A guided tour is offered every Sunday from March through October starting at 11.00 am.

   

Bracht Mill – Guided Tours and Sightseeing

The restored mill is open on the first Sunday of the month from May through September and can be visited in the company of an expert guide.

The tour takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Please register 14 days before the desired date if possible.

You may also book a guided bicycle tour to the mills within the municipality. This tour includes catering with coffee and cake.

Group cost per mill tour: Monday through Friday EUR 21.00 plus EUR 1.00 per person. Saturday, Sunday and on holidays EUR 26.00 plus EUR 1.00 per person.
