“Thekla of the Burch” or, in everyday life, Thekla Boers leads visitors through the town dressed in the medieval garb of a maidservant and offers entertaining history and stories of Brüggen. The “maidservant Thekla” lived 700 years ago, was “allied with an innkeeper named Heinrich” and always knows exactly what’s going on in Brüggen. Similarities with living or deceased real-life individuals are merely coincidental. Speaking in rhymes or Low German, she takes you to the most beautiful places in Brüggen and tells you all about the castle and convent, Schwalm gate and court chamberlains office.
