Enjoying Nature on Foot
Enjoy expansive views and fresh air on a hike through Schwalm-Nette Nature Park. Pass by green meadows, resplendent forests and rivers. Most of the hiking trails are loop trails built and marked in the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park.
Route A3, Through the Brüggen Countryside to the Nature and Animal Park
Head through the fields to the nature and animal park, featuring a large playground with monorail, summer sledding hill, trampoline, barbeque area and many other attractions. Shaggy camels, perky Asiatic black bears, zebras and emus are a great experience, especially for children. The hike takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes..

Route A4 around Born Lake
This hike takes you through the Laarer Bruch. Along the Schwalm, it ends at the Born Lake bird sanctuary. Here you will find herons, grey geese and other rare birds. The hike takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Route A4 connected to Route A10 from Brüggen to Hariksee
From Brüggen past the Born Lake bird sanctuary, head to Hariksee – the heart of the Schwalmtal. This body of water, approximately 1,000 meters long and 250 meters wide, is a popular destination with paddle boat rentals, mini golf and other attractions. The hike takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Route A5, from the Waage Bracht to the Weißen Stein
Past numerous clay and gravel pits, the trail takes you right to the “Kopje Koffie” on the Netherlands side.

Route A6, through the Schwalm Meadows to the Elmpter Chapel
Through the “Dilborner Benden” Schwalm meadows, transformed in 1995 to be semi-natural, this hiking trail takes you to the Chapel of Our Lady on the heath. Here the carved Flemish altar from around 1539 / 1540 is worth a closer look. The hike takes about 2 hours.

Route A7, Waage Bracht to the Langen Venn
The hike takes you through the forest to the Langes Venn heather more. Rain washed clay down from the topsoil, creating a nearly waterproof layer. The hike takes about 2 hours.
